Matangi String Quartet

The face of the newest generation of classical musicians

The young members of the Matangi String Quartet represent the top of their game, and are seen as the face of the newest generation of classical musicians. With their passionate performances and virtuosic precision, Maria-Paula, Daniel, Karsten and Arno are frequently described as communicative, challenging and refreshingly versatile.

Matangi enthusiastically takes part in regular cross-over projects, performing with artists including cabaretiers Herman van Even and Youp van 't Hek, bandoneon player Carel Kraayenhof, double bassist Rick Stotijn, jazz trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, DJ Kypski, jazz vocalists Mathilde Santing and Renske Taminiau, singer songwriters Lori Lieberman and Tom McRae, and breakdance crew Come Correct. With these boundary breaking expeditions outside of classical music, the Matangi Quartet reaches new audiences for the string quartet. Of equal importance is the extra inspiration it gives to explore the richness of classical repertoire that has been composed in the last 250 years - from Haydn to Adès - bringing these new sounds to life with fervor and zest. The Matangi Quartet essentially have one central goal - making the energy, passion and excitement present in all good music reachable and tangible for the audience.

For corporate events, there are endless possibilities. A beautiful Romantic intermezzo is naturally an option, but this can be extended with adventurous and innovative ideas, such as the combination with breakdance crew Come Correct or DJ Kypski.

“This is awesome. This is the high Art of the string quartet. The balance is so beautiful, it is organic, sometimes it is very pure and non-vibrato and then again there is a more firmer approach, and also that clear cello part, it is just wonderful.” Radio 4 – Diskotabel
